Manchester - Best City In The World

Date Published 23 May 2013

I am sure you will agree with me that Manchester is defiantly the best city in UK, possibly even the world. This is because of the history it has and the plans for the future. There are several different areas of Manchester, but that is what's so great about Manchester, there's somewhere for everyone! This blog is intended to give you a bit of information about different areas history and what is planned for them in the future.

Salford Quays

Although not strictly in Manchester, and as the area indicates is in Salford, Salford Quays has become an in-demand location. Previously the site of Manchester Docks, it became one of the first and largest urban regeneration projects in the United Kingdom following the closure of the dockyards in 1982. Salford Quays first started gaining attention with the Lowry building, and the attention has continued to grow with the development of the war museum and BBC North, Media City and ITV.

Deansgate

Deansgate is a main road through the city centre of Manchester. It runs north–south in a near straight route through the western part of the city centre and is the longest road in the city centre at over one mile long. In the late 20th century Deansgate was home to the head office of the Manchester Evening News newspaper, now replaced by part of the Spinningfields development.

Spinningfields

Spinningfields is a business, retail and residential development in Manchester, in the west of the city centre, between Deansgate and the River Irwell. The £1.5 billion project consists of 20 new buildings, totalling approximately 430,000 sq metres of commercial, residential and retail space. It takes its name from Spinningfield, a narrow street which ran westwards from Deansgate. The area is dominated by commercial office developments and has been described as the Canary Wharf of the North!

Castlefield

As part of the renewal of the site, an extensive outdoor area was developed as an events arena which is used for a wide variety of events. Granada Television television studios are located in the area along with several bars and restaurants which are particularly popular during the summer months when people flock to the area to enjoy the large outdoor drinking areas and regular live music events. Castle Quay is also the home of radio stations Key 103 and Piccadilly Magic 1152.

Ancoats

Ancoats is an inner city area of Manchester, next to the Northern Quarter and the northern part of Manchester's commercial centre. Ancoats borders the vibrant Northern Quarter you are no more than 5 minutes away from some of the best bars, restaurants and nightclubs in Manchester. There is a good handful of developments with remarkable properties and a plans to build a further buildings along with an array of new shops, bars and restaurants, means Ancoats is a great place to go.

The Village

The pedestrianised streets, which run along the west side of the Rochdale Canal, are lined with bars and restaurants. At night time, and in daytime in the warmer months, the streets are filled with visitors, often including gay and lesbian tourists from all over the world. The northern end of the Canal Street meets Minshull Street and the southern meets Princess Street; part of the street looks across the Rochdale Canal into Sackville Park.

The Greenquarter

The Greenquarter is a vibrant, self contained district set on the northern edge of Manchester's city centre, on the doorstep to the many fantastic shops, restaurants and bars that Manchester has to offer. Not to mention a short walk away from Victoria train station. The Greenquarter has grown in popularity due to the expertise in property developing from Crosby Homes. The towering developments at the Greenquarter now stand strong in Manchester's ever changing skyline. New shops and restaurants finish off this little community perfectly.
